Acadia University – Kamp Kujichagulia
Kamp Kujichagulia is held the first week of July of every year; the Kamp is looking for a responsible, enthusiastic and out-going Kamp Counselor for our busy Kamp this summer. The Kamp Counselor is to act as a leader and assist camp staff in providing participants with a fun and educational camp experience. The Kamp Counselor also will provide guidance and support for all camp staff and maintain a positive relationship with staff, parents and campers.
Provide a safe and healthy environment, both physically and mentally, to ensure the operation of a quality program.
Ensure children are aware of rules, and daily scheduled routines.
Identify and respond to behavior issues.
Reports all accidents to the Supervisor.
Direct and assist in the daily maintenance camp area, ensuring safety and cleanliness.
Assume equal share of the regular housekeeping chores such as cleaning, preparing for daily activities and cleaning up after projects.
Establish a relationship with each child and know his or her present level of understanding; consider the needs of all children and treat all with respect and dignity.
Remain up to date on emergency procedures and policies.
All other duties assigned by Camp Coordinator
Required Skills and Knowledge:
High energy, self- starter
Excellent people skills and a friendly responsible attitude
Strong communication/ interpersonal and teamwork abilities
Strong computer skills
Able to problem solve effectively
Candidates must be CPR/ First- Aid Level C certified
Experience with children in a camp or education setting preferred
Candidates should be prepared for physical labour of lifting, moving (chairs/tables, etc)
Criminal Record/ Child Abuse/ Vulnerable Person Check
Strong organization skills
